Ex Bello is a turn-based strategy game styled with tabletop game and medieval aesthetics. Players gather resources and move their soldiers around the map. Fight, raid, and siege your opponents into defeat, but remember to protect your own settlements. Outmaneuver and strike where your enemies are weak. Hold them where they are strong. Grind your opponent down through attrition, or blitz and burn their settlements: the choice is yours.
Each faction in Ex Bello has its own roster of soldiers and lords to pick from. Raise a horde of men-at-arms, a small elite squad of knights, or something in between. Remember, whatever army you build, it will need food to operate. If you cannot feed them, your soldiers' health will begin to deteriorate.
There are three game modes in Ex Bello: Lord Conquest, Kingdom Conquest, and Siege.
Lord Conquest: Players start with some of the map's settlements under their control. From there, players will move out to capture neutral settlements. Be careful, for your opponent is moving around the map as well. Capture your opponent's citadel to win.
Kingdom Conquest: This mode functions similarly to Lord Conquest with one major difference. The settlements of the map are evenly divided between the players. This mode takes players straight to attacking and raiding each other.
Siege: This mode is unique compared to the others for it is multi-round. One player is on defense with a smaller army trying to protect the settlements under their control, while another player is on offense with a larger army but no settlements. The offense player's goal is to take the defense player's citadel, before the turn timer reaches zero. The defense player needs to either defeat the offense player's soldiers or hold until the turn counter reaches zero. Players trade off being on defense or offense in a best of five match.
