Haiku, the Robot is a 2D Metroidvania set in a land full of adorable-yet-discomforting robots, hidden secrets and evil, virus-infected machines. This whole game has been made by one solo developer who is doing all of the pixel art, animation and programming. If that's not impressive enough, he had never touched a piece of code in his life until one year ago.
THE GAMEPlay as Haiku and dash, slash and grapple your way through a post-apocalyptic world full of different enemies, bosses and surroundings. The game features beautiful and atmospheric 8-bit pixel art. Everything is drawn by hand and animated frame-by-frame to achieve that retro, Metroidvania look.
On September 7, a playable demo of the game will be released along with the Kickstarter campaign. Download it for PC and Mac: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/haiku-the-robot/haiku-the-robot
ABOUT THE CREATOR
Jordan Morris loves games. Especially open-world games that let you see where paths lead to! He loves the feeling of exploring a world on his own terms and creating his own proper adventure.
For the last year, he has spent every day learning about pixel art, animation, and game development to work on Haiku, the Robot. All while working a full-time job. He hasn't spent any money on online courses and has learned everything through tutorials on YouTube. "I love the fact that creating video games has become a lot more accessible and you don't need a ton of experience to get started. When I started a year ago, I would have never dreamed of making an entire game, let alone launching a Kickstarter just one year later," tells Jordan.
ABOUT THE KICKSTARTER
With this project, Jordan hopes to recreate that precious feeling of being dropped into new, unexplored territory and setting off on a new adventure. The Kickstarter funds would allow him to quit his day job and dedicate 100% of his time to the project. The Kickstarter campaign launches on September 7 and will run for 32 days with a £22,000 funding goal (approx. €24,500 or $29,000).
The campaign offers various Kickstarter rewards, ranging from simply pre-purchasing the game all the way to helping create and design in-game bosses. Kickstarter backers also get their hands on limited-edition fan merch specially designed for the campaign. Other rewards include:
- Beta-testing and a special Kickstarter skin (discounted early bird available)
- 1-on-1 sessions with the creator
- Digital goodies; artbooks, soundtracks, and a world map.
